FXUS64 KSJT 181101 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 601 AM CDT Sat Jul 18 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible across our western counties this afternoon and Sunday afternoon. - Hot and dry conditions are forecast next week with steadily climbing temperatures through the end of the work week. && .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 258 AM CDT Sat Jul 18 2026 The upper level low that has been resulting in heavy rain across the region has moved a bit to the northwest this morning, currently centered across the Texas South Plains and southern portions of the Texas Panhandle. This feature is forecast to move very little today. Meanwhile an upper level ridge is centered across coastal portions of Texas. The position of the low to our northwest will keep the higher rain chances this afternoon to our west and northwest. Still, at least isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible across our western counties. Otherwise, most locations will remain dry today. High temperatures today will continue to be below normal, in the mid 80s to lower 90s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday through Friday) Issued at 1205 AM CDT Sat Jul 18 2026 A weak remnant disturbance aloft will be over far West Texas on Sunday. With weak lift and some remaining moisture east of this low, a few showers and thunderstorms will be possible Sunday afternoon in the our western counties, mainly west of a Rotan to Robert Lee to Ozona line. Highs on Sunday are expected to be mostly in the lower 90s, with a few upper 80s in the Northern Edwards Plateau. Our area will see a pattern more typical of mid-summer next week, with hotter and drier conditions. A fairly large upper level high will be shifting out of the central Rockies and over the southern Plains and North Texas. The high is forecast to be centered over the Red River Wednesday into Friday. Highs Monday will range from around 90 in the Northern Edwards Plateau, to the mid 90s in most of the Concho Valley and Big Country. With an increasing trend in temperatures through the week, highs Thursday and Friday are expected to range from the lower/mid 90s in our southern counties, to 100-103 degrees in much of the Big Country and portions of the northwestern Concho Valley. && .AVIATION...
