FXUS65 KBOI 011818 AFDBOI Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 1118 AM MST Sun Nov 1 2026 .UPDATE...Updated aviation discussion. && .KEY MESSAGES... - Rain and high elevation snow decreasing from west to east today. - Cooler with gusty winds today and tonight. Near to slightly above normal temperatures through the week. - Dry Monday through Wednesday, then a slight chance of precipitation late week. && .SHORT TERM /Through Tuesday Night/... Issued 308 AM MST SUN NOV 1 2026 An area of low pressure will move east across the area today. Showers will continue this morning across southwest Idaho, tapering off from west to east this afternoon before ending in the Magic Valley this evening. An additional 0.25 to 0.50 inch of rain is expected across south-central Idaho, including the Magic Valley. Rain amounts will taper off to less than 0.10 inch for the Boise Metro area and west-central Idaho mountains, with minimal amounts across southeast Oregon. Snow levels will remain around 6500-8000 feet, limiting additional light snow accumulations to the peaks. A weak cold front accompanying the low will also move across the area. This will bring slightly cooler temperatures, with highs decreasing by about 5 degrees from yesterday. The surface pressure gradient will tighten behind the front starting this afternoon and increasing tonight, supporting northwest wind gusts of 20-35 mph. The strongest winds will be along a corridor from Baker City southeast to the Snake River Plain, with gusts 35-45 mph between Mountain Home and Twin Falls. Despite the rain today, gusty winds tonight will prevent widespread fog formation, although patchy fog will still develop in sheltered mountain valleys and across portions of southeast Oregon. Winds will decrease on Monday as a ridge of high pressure builds overhead. Higher elevations will see slight warming while valleys experience similar temperatures. On Tuesday, winds will become breezy from the southeast as a low pressure system approaches the area from the west, strongest east of Boise where gusts will reach 20-30 mph. Temperatures will warm a few more degrees, especially the lower elevations where breezy conditions will aid mixing. Clouds will increase as the system approaches but it will remain dry. && .LONG TERM /Wednesday through Sunday/... Issued 308 AM MST SUN NOV 1 2026 A weak low pressure system will move east of the area on Wednesday, resulting in breezy afternoon winds but no precipitation. An upper level ridge will build back in over the weekend with dry conditions returning. The weak systems Wednesday through Friday will bring slight cooling, but temperatures will still be near normal.
